Prilosec and its Uses
Generic Prilosec is the first proton pump inhibitor (PPI) to be available for the treatment of frequent heartburn. Generic Prilosec is for people with frequent heartburn (two or more days per week).

Working Mechanism of Prilosec
Proton pumps are found on cells that line the stomach and are used by these cells to produce stomach acid. Omeprazole works by inhibiting the action of the proton pumps, and this reduces the production of stomach acid.

Acid is produced in the stomach as a normal part of the digestive process. However, sometimes this acid can flow back into the food pipe (oesophagus). This is called gastro-oesophageal reflux, and can cause pain and a burning sensation known as heartburn.

Generic Prilosec reduces the production of stomach acid and therefore stops excess acid flowing back into the food pipe. Generic Prilosec can therefore be used to relieve heartburn symptoms associated with acid reflux.

Prilosec Dose
Missed Dose of Prilosec

Take the missed dose of Prilosec as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose of Prilosec and take only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of Prilosec.

Excess Dose of Prilosec

Generic Prilosec in excess dose may show symptoms such as drowsiness, seizures, shortness of breath, and decreased body temperature.

Food and Drug Interactions with Prilosec

• While taking Prilosec drug you should not take any additional medicines to reduce stomach acid, for example H2 antagonists such as ranitidine or cimetidine, unless your doctor advises you to.
• Generic Prilosec may increase the blood levels of the following medicines and may therefore increase the risk of their side effects:
• warfarin
• acenocoumarol (nicoumalone)
• phenytoin
• benzodiazepines such as diazepam, triazolam, lorazepam or flurazepam
• digoxin
• cilostazol
• tacrolimus
• Due to its effect on the acidity in the stomach, Generic Prilosec may reduce the absorption of the following antifungal medicines from the stomach, which could make them less effective at treating infection:
• ketoconazole
• itraconazole
• Voriconazole may increase the blood level of Prilosec
