Lotensin and Its Uses
Generic Lotensin is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Generic Lotensin is in a class of medications called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It works by decreasing certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels, so blood flows more smoothly.
|| Top || Working Mechanism of Lotensin
ACE is an enzyme in the body, which is important for the formation of angiotensin II. Angiotensin II causes constriction of arteries in the body, thereby elevating blood pressure.
ACE inhibitors such as Generic Lotensin lower blood pressure by inhibiting the formation of angiotensin II, thus relaxing the arteries. Relaxing the arteries not only lowers blood pressure, but also improves the pumping efficiency of a failing heart and improves cardiac output in patients with heart failure.

Lotensin Dose
Missed Dose of Lotensin
Take the missed dose of Lotensin as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose of Lotensin , skip the missed dose and take only your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of Lotensin .
Excess Dose of Lotensin
Lotensin in excess may show symptoms such as extreme dizziness, weakness, fainting, and fatigue.
Conditions for storage of Lotensin
Store Lotensin at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Food and Drug Interactions with Lotensin
Generic Lotensin may react with the following
- a potassium supplement such as K-Dur, Klor-Con, and others;
- salt substitutes that contain potassium;
- any of the diuretics (water pills) triamterene (Dyrenium, Maxzide, Dyazide), spironolactone (Aldactone), or amiloride (Midamor);
- any other diuretic (water pill) such as hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, HydroDiuril, others), furosemide (Lasix), bumetanide (Bumex), indapamide (Lozol), and others; or
- lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith, others).

Contraindications with Lotensin
Lotensin is contraindicated in case of allergy to any of its ingredients.
|| Top | Precautions with Lotensin
Lotensin should be used with caution in the following
- Dosage reduction of Generic Lotensin and/or discontinuation of the diuretic may be required in case of impaired renal function.
- Presumably due to the inhibition of the degradation of endogenous bradykinin, persistent nonproductive cough has been observed with all ACE inhibitors, always resolving after discontinuation of therapy. ACE inhibitor-induced cough should be considered in the differential diagnosis of cough.
- In patients undergoing surgery or during anesthesia with agents that produce hypotension, Generic Lotensin will block the angiotensin II formation that could otherwise occur secondary to compensatory renin release. Hypotension that occurs as a result of this mechanism can be corrected by volume expansion.

Adverse effects with Lotensin
Generic Lotensin may be associated with the following serious adverse effects
- an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
- chest pain;
- an irregular heartbeat or changes in your heartbeat;
- severe dizziness or fainting; or
- signs of an infection including a sore throat or a fever.
Generic Lotensin may be associated with the following less serious adverse effects:
- headache
- mild dizziness or lightheadedness
- fatigue
- dry, tickling cough
- anxiety or depression
- numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, arms, or legs
- nausea or constipation
- taste disturbances or
- itching, rash, or increased sweating.
