Azithromycin and its Uses
Generic Azithromycin is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as bronchitis; pneumonia; sexually transmitted diseases (STD); and infections of the ears, lungs, skin, and throat. Generic Azithromycin is in a class of medications called macrolide antibiotics. Generic Azithromycin works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.
Generic Azithromycin is also used to fight opportunistic infections in people with HIV.
|| Top || Working Mechanism of Azithromycin
Generic Azithromycin works by preventing bacteria from producing proteins that are essential to them. Without these proteins the bacteria cannot grow, replicate and increase in numbers. Generic Azithromycin therefore stops the spread of infection and remaining bacteria are killed by the body's immune system or eventually die.
